Teenagers’ Money Life Skills Workbook

What are we telling our Teenagers about Money at this formative years of their lives as parents, teachers, guardians, siblings and the Society at large. Are we preparing them early for realities around money that will shape many other aspects of their lives?

Teenagers Personal Finance Literacy is a core life skill, especially in this day and age when their World is growing highly complex by the day. Whether they come from low-income backgrounds or more privileged ones, learning basic concepts of personal finance like saving, sharing and spending is essential for a more rounded mature lifestyle in teenagers and young adults. The formation of the
right money management habits and attitudes early in life is core.

This Personal Finance (Money) Literacy training workbook can also act as a guide for parents, teachers, guardians and other Finance Literacy trainers. It is specially designed to empower teenagers with money management skills from an early age for a lifetime of financial well-being.

Objectives of the workbook:

  • To help the young adults appreciate the fact that money does not come easy.
  • To train teenagers to be better money managers from an early age.
  • To make young people aware of their spending patterns and the  temptations to spend much money on wants. This helps them cultivate a culture of saving from an early age.

  • To help young people break their parents and guardians cycle of  poor money management and hence set financial goals and start developing plans for realizing those goals early in life.

About the Author

Elizabeth is a Personal Finance Specialist. She does Finance Literacy training, Money Coaching
and Consultancy in Schools, Institutions of Higher Learning, Churches, NGO’s and other Organizations. She has over 20 years work experience in Corporate Finance.

She is passionate, has a calling and is on a mission to equip, empower impact and raise financially responsible citizens who will build strong families, neighborhoods, local and international communities. She holds a Master of Business Administration degree (Finance Option) from the University of Nairobi and is a Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (C.P.A.K).

She is married and is a mother of three boys.

The author is part of a team that runs a wonderful children curriculum called The Money Club. Participants learn the basics of money including savings, needs versus wants, personal budgeting, introduction to investments, among others as life skills. This prepares them to become more financially responsible citizens who will build strong families, neighborhoods as well as local and international communities.
